According to Wikipedia, Travel Insurance is an insurance product that covers unforeseen circumstances that happen during travel either domestically or internationally.

Airlines at best give a certain percentage of refunds when their customers’ flights are delayed or cancelled.

However, travel insurance is designed to cover your belongings, your expenses and your well-being.

The possibility of getting a complete refund on your travel insurance is dependent on what unforeseen circumstances the insurance policy covers.

In the eventuality of a trip cancellation, there will only be a reimbursement if the reason for the cancellation is a covered reason. These reasons could be illness or injury, the loss of a dear one, military deployment, the loss of your travel companion, natural disaster, unrest at destination areas etc.

When it happens that your trip is delayed, the policy should provide some level of relief for the traveller by catering for feeding, lodging and local transportation.

If for any reason, there should be an interruption in your trip, then the policy should be able to cover the reimbursement of your forfeited expenses as well as also cater for a one-way economy ticket back home.

In the eventuality that your belongings are either stolen or lost at the point of your destination, the policy could cover your lost possession or bag, however, there are limits to what could becovered. Items like has and jewellery stand as exclusive items from the umbrella of the policy.

But to be sure of the refund of your travel insurance, it’s important to thoroughly go through the policy of the insurance company you are subscribing to on any of your journeys.
